正直なところ打ち切りが心配でならなかったのですが（売り上げ的に）、こうして最終巻まで無事に出版されてほっとしました。
1〜3巻までで積み上げてきたものが最終巻にしっかり反映されており、1人1人のキャラクターの行く末が非常に丁寧に描写されていて、「あの人はどうなったの？」「作者はあの設定を忘れてしまったのか？」などといった疑問を抱くことなく読み終えることができました。広げたものが綺麗にたたまれていました。
特に水藤と戸塚の関係がどのように決着するか気になっていたのですが、ここまで突っ込んで描写してもらえるとは思っていなかったので嬉しかったです。
来楽先生ありがとうございます…！
水藤戸塚的にはバッドエンドとも取れる展開でしたが、読後に２人のことを思うとき感じたのは不思議と鬱々としたものばかりではありませんでした。
最後に残された綾佳のおかげです。
これまで起こってきた哀しい出来事は消せないけれども、それでも前向きに生きていこうとする彼女の姿が、やり切れない気持ちをいくらか軽減してくれるのです。

最終巻には見所がたくさんありすぎるのですが、一番胸に来たのは第六章「哀しみキメラ」の冒頭と最後でした。
読んでいていろいろと込み上げてくるものがありました。
改めて1巻から読み直してみたいと思います。

散って逝く者が残る者に託した事。
背負うのではなく抱きしめ生きていくという残った者の覚悟。
キメラたちの迎えた結末は幸せなものではありません。しかし「過酷で切なく、けれど勇気を貰える物語」にふさわしいものだったと思います。

終わってしまうのは寂しいですが出会えて良かった。そう思える作品でした。

どうしようもない状況に置かれ、それでもその中で少しでもいい道を選ぼうとする若者たちの物語。
広げた風呂敷を見事にたたんで完結しました。
みんな幸せになりました的なハッピーエンドはありえないと思っていたけれど、作者が見せてくれたこの終わり方は、切ないけれどとてもいいエンディングだったと思います。
登場人物たちが真剣に選んだ道をそれぞれ歩んでいく、その真摯な姿勢はとても読み応えがありました。
読み終わった今、胸に迫る別れの場面が、ほんの短いセリフと共に甦ります。
大切な本がまた一冊増えました。
