「食事」のために『除霊研究所』という怪しげなサイトを立ち上げたキメラたちは、「姪に呪い殺されそうだ」という相談を受ける。
訪ねていった家の中にいたのは、男の死体の側にたたずむ少女だった。
この少女を中心に物語は進んでいくが、過去が幸せではなかった少女の思いや、少女の運命をねじ曲げてしまった罪悪感から少女をかばい続ける早瀬綾佳の思い、それを見守る矢代純と水藤深矢の思いが丁寧に描かれる。
「化け物は、人一倍優しくなきゃ、人間のふりもできないんだよ」
という純のセリフがいい。
状況は厳しいけれど、前向きに歩み続ける彼らの行方を見届けたい。

電撃大賞金賞受賞作の続編です。
あいかわらず丁寧な描写で読ませてくれました。
状況は厳しい中、自分達のせいで運命をねじ曲げられてしまった少女を助けるため、キメラたちは懸命に進むべき道を探します。
今回は特に中学生の真里に対する、綾佳の優しいお姉さんぶりがよかったです。
「あんなに他人に甘い綾佳さんは、初めて見た」というのは水藤のセリフですが、一巻目では見られなかった綾佳の優しさが見えて、しかも悪党と闘うときは馬乗りになって脅しつけ、そのギャップに惹かれました。
あと少しで完結するそうですが、最終的にどう決着がつくのでしょうか。

正直なところ、読む前は、続編はあまり期待できないのじゃないかと思っていたのですが、読んでみたらとても面白かったです。
続編ということで、もちろんキメラたちのその後が描かれているのですが、今回京都でモノに憑かれた少女真里が、もう一人の主人公という位置で登場します。
これまで愛情を受けることなく育ってきた少女と綾佳の心の絆は、多分綾佳の罪悪感から始まり、次第にある意味母のような愛情に育っていきます。
この子を守るために戦うキメラたち。
最初は怯え、やがては「大事な非常食」になりたいとすがりつこうとする真里が、彼らの苦しみと戦いを目の当たりにして成長します。

前作がホラー調で始まったのに対し、今回はややミステリー仕立ての色合いが強いでしょうか。
３作目がとても楽しみです。
