作品をとりまく柔らかい雰囲気に癒されました。
雨降りの道や、酒場でのやり取り。

銀賞という事でアナウンスされていた作品ですが、
重厚なストーリー性や剣戟、魔法らしいものは殆ど無い、
という前評判を知った時、むしろ読む気が沸いて来ました。
暗く重い作品ばかりを読み続けていたので丁度良い清涼剤になると思ったのです。

読了してみると、表紙絵のイメージから想像したものに遠くない満足を得る事ができました。

物事にはきっちりと結果が書いてあるので、
消化不良にはなりませんが、時折とても先が見えてしまう部分や
心理戦ってそんな簡単かな？と思う部分もあります。
しかし、さっぱりとしてほのかに残る読後感はなんとも言えず、
テクニックだけで出来るものではないなと感じました。

最初のなせる業だったら寂しいのですが、
次にこの雰囲気が維持できていれば、更にその先もずっと読んでいこうと思っています。

5.0 out of 5 stars 未来人も宇宙人も超能力者もいないけど面白い小説, 2006/7/5
一定以上のライトノベルを読んできてしまって、どのライトノベルを
読んでも「似た設定どこかで読んだ事あるなあ」といった既視感を
覚えてしまうようになった読者にもおすすめできる良書です。
交易を行う商人が主人公という切り口が新鮮で、興味深く読む事が出来ました。

訪れた先の土地の習慣や催し物、商人同士のやり取りなど
丁寧に書き込まれていますが、しつこさを感じる事も無く、
程よく纏められていると思います。

ただ、いくら切り口が新鮮だったとしても、一風変わったのヒロインの
存在無くしてはこの本を良書と言う事は出来なかったでしょう。
物語の中心的な出来事は他のライトノベルと比べて遥かに地味なのですが
ヒロインの存在がそれこそ「香辛料」の様に全体をピリッと締めています。

刺激を求めるのであれば他にもおすすめできる本は沢山あるとは思いますが、
それに疲れてしまった読者の方におすすめです。

爽やかで涼しい風が通り抜けて行った様な読了感を与えてくれる様な本は、そうないですよ。
おすすめです。

　行商人の青年ロレンスと豊穣の狼神ホロの二人を中心とした一風変わったライトノベルです。世界観は貨幣経済が定着し、様々な共同体が発展した中世ヨーロッパがベースとなっていて、王制や教会、商会などの利害関係、続刊では土着の信仰や慣習などもとり上げられています。そういったものが丁寧に積み上げられて商売に展開されていくのを面白く読むことができます。幸運、不運に関わらず経済の動きにはなんらかの根拠があり、そこが商売の一番面白いところというのが良く書かれていると思います。また話のメインとなる商取引の顛末についても、なるほどなー、と納得できます。旨い話にピリッとした辛味が効いています
　主人公のロレンスが常に一儲けたくらむ商人なので大筋は商売の話になりますが、ヒロインの賢狼ホロとの小気味良いやり取りも魅力の一つです。やり込められるロレンスや不意を突かれるホロの言葉遊びにニヤリとしてしまいます。特にホロは商売の駆け引きでもなかなか尻尾をださない老練さを持っていながら、食べ物や衣装についてはその尻尾で本音がばればれというのが可愛いのです。ファンタジーが全く駄目でなければ、物語の筋もしっかり通っていて登場人物も魅力的な小説ですので一度読まれることをおすすめします。
