読んで一言、「凄い」

と、思った。
文章力がかなりのレベルであり、こういう文章は中々書け得ない物だから。
だが、繰り返しが多過ぎた箇所もある。
説明がくどく感じる向きもあるかも知れない。

内容は世にある膨大な物語の、語られなかったかけらを集めた感じ。
その紡ぎ方が巧いのである。
関心する程の手腕。

全体としては、実があるのに虚もある小説。
行間から零れ出てくる実を感じると同時に虚ろも感じる。
一言で言えば、非常にすばらしい文章を書いていると言う事。
しかし、文章が巧い人の文章は好悪がはっきりする。
実だけを感じる人には本のページ数以上の価値を見出せる。
逆に、虚だけを感じる人にはページ数以下の価値を見出す。
良いか悪いかだけでは判断出来ない部分、なぜなら作者の才能だから。

私には向かない文章の質だったので、星は少ない。
が、作者は間違い無く素晴らしい才能の持ち主。
まだ一巻。
才能が伸びるのか止まるのか、そこを良く見極めたいと感じた。

都市伝説を主題にした、人間の「物語」の始まりがこの本。
「神隠し」にあった少年が、高校生になった時に遭遇する存在、其れを軸にして動き出す物語。
この「少年」空目恭一があまり出てこない巻なのですが、出ないのに己の存在を見事に読者に伝えているのが見事と申せます。

ただ、是が著者が初めて発刊された「小説」の為、やや矛盾する点があるのも否めません。
しかし、巻毎に著者の「作家」としての能力の成長は確実に見うけられ、また登場人物の個性がはっきりしている事、発言の一つ一つに肯かされるという事から、今後の作品を期待してしまう、そういう力強さを感じさせられます。

作者は文学を志していた故か、桜についての記述には
先人達の影響が見受けられる。
だがそれに終始しているわけではなく、読み物として面白い、
佳い意味で古くて新しいものに仕上がっている。
今後とも期待が持てる作家ではないだろうか。
なお、本巻の読了後には、坂口安吾「桜の森の満開の下」と、

梶井基次郎「桜の樹の下には」を併読されることを勧めておく。
