1980年というから、今から27年前！立ち読みしたあの本を、何度買っておくべきだったと後悔したことか！あの名作を、あの巨匠が、他の人物に描くことを許すなんて、余程、その人物の力を買っていないとあり得ないことですよね・・・。

当時、巨匠と言われつつ、手塚治虫としての絵としてこれからの進め方にもしかしたら悩まれていたかも知れぬ人物と、当時、若手の劇画画力Ｎｏ．１として期待された人物の奇跡のコラボレーション！御厨氏は、当時、ノーラの箱舟やら、裂けた旅券でその画力で知られていましたが、映画「火の鳥2772愛のコスモゾーン」では、あくまでメカデザインとして参加。（アニメ自身も、「口の動き方が、手塚アニメの割には、妙に実写ぽい所が、違和感。」という評価があったように記憶。この頃は、皆試行錯誤の頃だったのかも・・・。）
しかし、その御厨氏が劇画家として、劇画のページ数のしがらみに縛られつつも、一つの作品としてこの作品を仕上げています。掲載されたインタビューを見ると、「やはり手塚氏は、御厨氏にとっても神様なのだったな。」とは思いますが、それでも、油が乗って、これからも伸びていくのだろうなと思われた頃の御厨氏の劇画が拝見できるのはファンとしては有難い。

初見の方も、手塚氏が、モンスターあるいは美しい火の鳥の二面で描く火の鳥が、劇画風に描くとこうなるのかという一例を見ることができるだけでも一見の価値ありかと思います。

3.0 out of 5 stars やっぱり「火の鳥」は手塚先生に描いて欲しかった。, 2009/6/18
これを見つけたときは「やっと出たー！」と嬉しく思ってすぐに買ったが、他人のペンによる手塚作品は手塚作品じゃない、と私は断言したい。「プルートゥ」や「ガロン」など別に描いた人たちの絵が下手だとか言うようなものではなく、手塚作品は手塚先生のペンのタッチであるから物語にフィットするのであって、これは誰にも真似できない。だから、御厨さんに「描いてよ」と言ってしまった手塚先生を恨みたくもなる。私は「もう一つの火の鳥」というオビをはずして、本当の「火の鳥」シリーズの一部としてこの「火の鳥2772」を手塚先生に描いて欲しかった。なにせ、私がアニメにのめりこむきっかけとなった作品が「火の鳥2772」なのであるから……。

アニメ版の華麗な絵をイメージしたまま買ってしまったので本を開いて見て「濃いめ」の絵柄に驚いた。当時のマンガとしてはよくできているとは思うけど。キャラクターの顔がアニメ版とは全く違うので注意
