特撮の登場人物や技などについて、科学的に裏づけをしようとしている本

元々は1995年にこの作者である、柳田理科雄が書いた処女作であるが
2003年に文庫化されるに従い、かなり書き直しをしています。
内容は、ウルトラセブンがマッハ７で飛ぶと、衝撃波で体が裂けてしまう
など、特撮ものや、アニメものの技などについて考察を加えています。

文庫本のあとがきにもあるのですが、もともとは作者が塾講師だった
時代に時間の合間に書き溜めていたものだそうです。文庫本化する
際に、それなりに手直しをして、そのコメントは下段のコメントに
ちりばめられています。

単にアニメや特撮だけで終わらず、科学的視点を持って裏付けようとは
していますが、すこしおふざけが過ぎているのでいやな人には気になると
思います。
しかし、「理科」に興味を持ってもらうという点では、このような
アプローチはあっても良いのではと思います。
私には懐かしさが先立って、面白いのと共に、懐かしさを覚えて
良い本だったなぁと思いました。

ウルトラマンやゴジラや巨大ロボット達の体重の設定。身長をミクロ化できるウルトラセブンの末路。仮面ライダーのエネルギー。太陽の表面温度よりも熱い炎を怪獣が吹くとどうなるのか。マッハで空を飛ぶヒーロー達の悲劇。ドリル戦車の真実の姿など、特撮ヒーローやSFアニメの話や出来事を科学的?に考察?すると言う感じの本です。個人的には特撮ヒーローや宇宙戦艦ヤマトがかなり大好きな人、冗談が通じない人にはあんまりおすすめ出来ない本かなと言うのがこの本の主な感想です。

特撮・漫画・アニメ等々のヒーローやスーパーロボット、大怪獣の設定を科学的に吟味したらどうなるか？ 今まで頭にあったごくごく当り前と思っていた認識がガラガラと崩れていく。 「10両編成の電車を止めるにはマジンガーＺが３８０体必要」 ・・・なんじゃそりゃぁ！無敵のスーパーロボットじゃなかったのかぁぁぁ・・・。

かくして、子供は科学の洗礼を受け、大人になっていくのでありました。

・・・でも、いつかは現在の科学の壁を越えるような、新発明・新理論が見つかるといいなあ。
