この作品は、かなり古いものですが、柴田先生の代表作品ではないでしょうか？ 最初の作品では、ただの狼少女の話かと思われましたが、実はある機関によって開発？研究された人間でした。彼女は、研究者の１人である義父によって、両親ともに逃がしてもらいましたが、飛行機事故によって、両親は死亡。

彼女＝ランは、狼に育てられるという過去を持ちます。ただ、人として静かに暮らしたいランですが、彼女に関わった人間は、組織とランの戦いに巻き込まれていく。

話が進んでいく中で、ランのなぞが次々とわかっていく。ランは、超古代人の血を引く、最後のひとりであった。超古代人の力と怨念が、彼女の意識下に押さえられてそれが解放された時、恐ろしい力を産んでしまう。

ランの悲しみが、とても、印象に残っています。本当に静かに暮らしたいと願っていながら、次々と人を巻き込み自分の愛する人さえも、組織の毒牙にかかり、サイボーグ化されてしまった。 いつになったら、この呪われた人生？から解放されるのか？静かな悲しみが・・・・

柴田昌弘といえば、小松崎ラン。
和田慎二のライフワーク「超少女明日香」と共演した事もある。

元々、集英社「別冊マーガレット」「ＤＸマーガレット」の掲載され
コミックスに短編として１作ごと４本。
その後、花とゆめコミックスにその続編「ハトの旋律」「ブルーソネット」が発売されている。

マーガレットコミックス版では、１作ごとにバラバラの刊行だったのが
このＭＦ文庫では、１作目から発表順に収録されており
読むごとに単行本を変えなくていいので、読者としては大変助かる。
