日本におけるInterBaseの第一人者である加藤氏による、世界で初のFirebird解説書。インストールから、運用の手引きまで事細かに、かつ網羅的に紹介されています。
主要なSQLのリファレンスを含み、Delphiをはじめ、PerlやPython、Javaによる開発手法までを示しており、その内容には圧倒されます。

巻末には、v1.0のリリースノートの翻訳が付属しており、Firebirdで開発を行おうという人なら必ず手元に置いておきたい一冊となっています。

InterBaseのプロダクトマネージャをされていた加藤氏による
Firebirdの解説本。Firebirdの概要、様々な言語からの接続方法
などが詳細に解説されており、Firebirdを理解するのに非常に
役に立ちました。
特にJavaからのアクセス方法は非常に細かく説明されており、
巻末のコマンドリファレンスと合わせ、日本語マニュアル代わりに
利用できる良書だと思います。

2.0 out of 5 stars タイトルに比べ内容が不十分, 2004/6/7
Postgres、MySQLに次ぐオープンソースDBMSとして注目されているFirebirdであるが、現状では、日本語文書が十分整備されているとは言えず、この手の日本語で読める解説は大変ありがたい。

残念なのは、本書のタイトルが「…導入と運用の実際」となっているのに対し、内容は半分がアプリケーション開発のためのインターフェース等にページを割いている点である。結局、運用に関しては、十分な情報が掲載されているとは言えない。タイトルからは不満足な内容である。
