今日いっきに読んだ。
読後の印象は、知的でユーモアのある優しい大人、という感じかな。

原題は「JANIKSEN VUOSI」　Arto Paasilinna
内容は最悪の妻に愛想を尽かし、仕事もうっちゃった男が、ケガを助けた野ウサギといっしょにフィンランドの大自然を旅する話なんだ。
三十年も前に書かれた作品とは思えないほどみずみずしい。

この本の良さは、ストーリーが面白いだけでなく、自然とのつきあい方や野生動物とのつきあい方をおしえてくれることだな。
しかもソローのように実際に山の中で暮らさずとも、その心意気は現実生活に生かせる気がする。
弱いものを大切にする優しさとか、権力を振りかざす者に対し立ち向かう強さもあって、読んでいて温かい気分にしてくれたね。
さすがムーミンを産んだ国！
「親切である・礼儀正しい」ことが優しさだと思っているヒトは多いけど、おれなんかはこういった「自然や、小さなもの・弱いものをどれくらい大切にできるか」が優しさの基本だと思っている。
「どうしたら優しい人間になれるんだろう」って、迷っているヒトに勧めたい本ですね★

擦れっ枯らしの人間になるのが悔しいおじの脱走劇。車にウサギ、水泳に戦の遺産、山火事に密造酒、缶詰にカラス、熊にパーティ荒らし、狩りにソビエト英雄、二日酔いに婚約者、そして総理に政治脱獄。愉快さ、儚さ、痛快さを果然、悵然、断然にして感奮させてくれる。

ただ、あの美し弁護士の後ろ姿、振り向く姿、戻ってくる姿を堪能する段落の翻訳に、不自然で不完全燃焼を覚えた。

彼女がテーブルを愛嬌よく離れてからの一連の動作に、「今までのところなんもかもが理想的だ。」から、彼女のスタイルは「彼女の数々の長所の中でも最高のものだった」、そして「..がいかにも女っぽいことにも気づいた。」といった主人公の一連の思いにつながり悪く感じた。


それでも、良い作品であることは間違いない。中年を主人公とする物語には、罪悪感まみれのものが多いなかで、こういう潔い夢話は本当にありがたい。
