初っぱながコレ。

　50年前、
　日本がもし100人の村だったら、
　子どもは35人でした。

　それがいまは14人です。
　このまま減ると、2050年には7人になります。(p.6)

ええー！　深刻じゃないのさ！

次にびっくりしたのは、

　世界で100人の子どもが生まれたとすると、
　そのうちの55人以上は、
　生まれたことを役所などに届けられない(p.15)

という事実。まじかよ！

日本は高学歴社会で、中学生までは義務教育を受けられます。
ところが世界の100人の子どものうち・・・

　中学校に行くのは40人です。
　そのうち20人は、途中でやめました。
　60人は、はじめから行っていません。(p.25)

え、80%以上は中卒未満ってこと？

あとさ、子供を戦争に駆り立てるのだけでも大問題だけど、
「大人の兵士の先に立って地雷原を歩かされたりします」(p.28)
って、何よ。

100人の話に置きかえて論じると、
すごくわかりやすくなる、というのは本当ですね。

日本がそこまで恵まれた国だとは知りませんでした。
うーん、そういう実感はそれほどないけど。

世界のあちこちに子ども時代を奪われてしまった子どもたち、存在さえも失われてしまった子どもたちがいる。
日本に住む私たちの日常からかけ離れた辛い現実に、私たちはともすれば目も耳も覆ってしまいたくなります。

でもこの本には、希望があります。
そのことを解決する力が、もしかしたら私にも備わっているかもしれない、ということを気づかせてくれます。

大好きなチョコレートの選び方ひとつから、なにかが変えられるとしたら…
世界のどこかにいる子どもの声に応えられるとしたら…
私たちの日常はもっと豊かに意味のあるものになりそうです。
