　いやまあすごいのなんの。冴え渡る町田節。スピード感、リズム感、おへど感。ストーリーは小学生の頃学芸会でやった水戸黄門みたいな小学生男子ギャグ全開の爆笑時代劇なんだけど、それを文章でやってしまう、その文章がすごいのよ。折り目正しく、かつ強烈にパワフルで、かつ1ミリの無駄もない。平成の日本語の使い手としての実力は十指(三指？)に入るね。畳みかける壮絶なギャグの群れに、笑い続け、涙が止まらなかったよ。人によって違うだろうけど、私的には235頁、82頁、あとネット文体のパロディの206頁のギャグを十回くらい読み返して、その都度笑った。まじで。

　しかしこれほど荒唐無稽なハナシでありながら、エピソードの数々は痛いほどリアル。会社員も元会社員も「あーっ会社ってこーゆーとこ」「いるいるこーゆー奴。てか皆これ」と、憤懣やるかたなし状態になるは必定。オレオレ男たちに押しまくられるとほほな日々を送られる皆さまは是非お手に取ってご覧あれ。勿論会社員との不毛なつきあいは会社員以上、というフリーランスの方にもおすすめ。

恐るべき小説である。これまでの町田康の作品と比べて段違いにスケールが大きく、言語的インパクトも際立っている。もともと天才的な文章を書く人だとは思っていたが、これでいよいよ現代を代表する作家になった。

こんな馬鹿馬鹿しくって下品な小説なんて外道だ、文学はもっと心の機微を表した繊細なものでないと……と思った方は、大いに誤解している。はっきり言って町田康ほど繊細な作家はいない。彼は夏目漱石の再来と言いたいほど徹底して繊細かつ知的であり、しかも非常に優れた文明批評家でもある。「パンク侍」では非常にたくさんの変人が出て来て変なことを好き勝手にしゃべっているが、これが悉く、実に見事に現代人を風刺している。全然雰囲気は違うけれど、「我輩は猫である」を髣髴とさせる饒舌な文才だ。

　なんかタイトルに惹かれて読み始めたら、どうも最初はなんだか訳のわからない話にまったく進まないストーリーにかったるいなあと思い、思わず投げ出しそうになりました。
　絶妙な台詞のやり取りが結構面白かったのでしばらく我慢して読んでいくと、あらら、中盤から一気に話が見えてきて、とてつもなくシュールで現代的な時代劇の始まり始まりといったところ。こりゃ傑作じゃん!!、となりまして候。
　正統派時代劇を期待して本書を手にとる人はまずいないと思いますが、ここに描かれている表現はまさにもう好みの問題かもしれません。ですが、終盤に出てくる大臼様が出てきてからはもう空前絶後の展開で個人的には小説でこれほどぶっ飛んでいて、かつその絵が違和感なく頭に浮かぶというのは初めてでした。
これ完全映像化出来たら、大傑作か大こけかのどちらかでしょうね。でも見てみたいなあ、この小説の映像化(笑、必死)
