同出版の（世界装飾図）とセットで揃えたいこの１冊、（世界装飾図）は１６世紀から１９世紀の中世の建物の天井や壁に描かれた一般的な植物やひとの顔をモチーフとした装飾という感じですが、こちらはより一層、神格のある寺院や教会に描かれた手の込んだ模様装飾といった印象ですね、ビザンチンやルネッサンス様式というのでしょうか、総１５９ページ、オールカラー、文庫本サイズですが、正確な描写で見やすく、資料としても十分に通用をしそうです、低価格ですし、お勧めですよ。

まずこの本の安さに驚きました。
フルカラーでこの値段は安いですよ!!
これならやっぱ買わなきゃ良かった~と思っても後悔しないと思って(笑)
いや、買って満足してますけどね＾＾

私はイラストの資料としてこの本を買いましたが、どのページを見ても素敵な文様がギッシリで見とれるほど。
色んな国の文様が、多くはないですが載ってます。
簡単な説明がそれぞれ入ってるので普通に読んでるだけでも面白いですよ♪

文庫本サイズで邪魔にならないし、買って損はしないと思いますヨｗ

　Ｈ．Dolmetschの『Der Ornamentenschatz』（1886年）の翻訳。マール社の「マールカラー文庫」の15巻。
　古代エジプトから18世紀のヨーロッパまで、各地の装飾文様が時代順に紹介されている。絵画、彫刻、建築、モザイク、七宝、ステンドグラス、刺繍、象眼など実に様々なところから文様が収集されている。
　原書の序文には「実用のため」とあるらしいが、まさにそんな感じに並べられている。19世紀末のヨーロッパといえば、アール・デコに代表されるように「装飾」が美術と実用品の両方で大流行した時代である。本書からは、当時のドイツ人が各時代の装飾について、どのように見ていたか伝わってくる。
　文庫で出すには惜しい本だ。もっと大きな版で見たい。
