昨年発売された『イチロー 北野武 キャッチボール』は、BS-i/BSフジで放送された番組の単行本化であったが、本書は2004年3月28日、フジテレビで放送された「少年MATSUI」の単行本化である。私は見ていないが、地上波での放送なのでご覧になった方も多いだろう。

タイトル『野球小僧』の通り、子供の頃の野球の話に始まり、ほぼ全編野球の話題である。『イチロー~』が野球以外の話題も多かったのとは対照的である。たけしさんの野球の知識（日本のプロ野球だけでなく、メジャーリーグも）の豊富さには驚かされた。単なる野球好きの域をはるかに超えている。対談中に野球選手名や球場名、お笑いタレント名が多数登場するが、注釈が丁寧なのが嬉しい。

松井選手はマスコミの取材に対して非常に紳士的に対応するが、ある意味では表面的な受け答えで、本音は語っていないようにも感じていた。本書の中でマスコミについて次の様に話している。「私はマスコミの人を、自分の考えをファンに伝えてくれる人だと思っているんです。だから、彼らが聞きたがっているテーマに沿うような返事をしていますし、自分の気分次第で対応を変えないように心がけていますね。」私は松井選手の人柄を誤解していた。

松井ってかしこいなーと感じました。ビートたけしからいろんな話を引き出していると思います。テレビのインタビューでも嫌な顔１つせず、答える松井の本質が見えたような気がします。「野球小僧」のタイトルどおり、ビートたけしの野球好きがすごく、伝わってきました。メジャーの選手のこともよくしっていることにはびっくりしました。あっさりと読みやすい本です。

ビートたけしは、野球が・野球しか娯楽がなかった時代に少年時代を
過ごした人。一方、松井秀喜は、野球じゃなくても良かった時代に野
球に魅せられて中学校時代からその大器を嘱望されてきた人。
今は別の領域で頂点に立つ二人ですが、たけしは子供のように松井を
、また松井はたけしに幼少の頃の憧れのタケちゃんマンを浮かべ、こ

の対談を楽しく、そしてとても真摯に話しています。
松井とたけしの二人に共通する事を一つ見つけました。それは、二人
とも決して心には出さないけれども「相手を思いやる気持ちが常人の
何十倍も優れていること」です。この対談集を読んで益々確信しまし
た。蛇足ですが、たけしが、「松井さん」と「さん付け」で呼ぶ気持

ちは非常に理解出来て嬉しく思いました。
