★これほど琴線に触れる小説を読んだのは、何年ぶりだろう。この小説には“魂の叫び”があると思う。恋人美希の手紙の部分で、私は涙があふれて止まらなかった。最後に主人公が妻と共に痴呆症の父親を見舞う場面でも泣いてしまった。女性読者を必ず一度は泣かせるニクイ小説だと思う。

★『永劫回帰の呪縛』という実に厳(いかめ)しい表題から読者が受ける印象とは異なり、この小説は、本質的には、１人の男性と３人の女性に対する“深い人間愛の物語”だと思う。しかし、読み終わると、これ以外のタイトルが考えられないほど鮮やかな表題のつけ方だと納得する。

★“悲恋”“呪縛”“献身”にからまって“ハンセン病”“老人介護”という極めて今日的題材が登場する。ハンセン病に対する“無知に基づく偏見と差別”が如何に恐ろしいものであったか。老人介護と家族は如何に向き合うべきか。この小説がこれらの問題を考える一助になると思う。

★主人公だけでなく、登場人物それぞれが、自らの人生に懸命に立ち向かってゆくこの小説を読み終わって、私はなぜか生きる勇気が湧いて来た。辛い現実に直面したら、またこの本を読もうと思う。

★人生と文学の香りに満ちたこの作品が、いつか映画化・テレビドラマ化すればいいなと切に思う。
