初めて読んだときも十分面白かったのですが、その後、たまたま塩野七海氏の「神の代理人」を読んだ際に「あれ？」と思ったので本書を読み返しました。
うーん、読み手の知識に合わせて複数の楽しみ方が用意されているのだ、と理解。
佐藤亜紀の著書は読む側の知識と教養がどのレベルにあっても十分読書の楽しみを与えてくれます。こちらのがレベルアップすれば、また違った「楽しみ」を与えてくれる懐が深い作者です。

5.0 out of 5 stars 「薔薇の名前」というより「フーコーの振り子」, 2004/2/29
「薔薇の名前」との類似も言われていますが、話の構造、登場人物の右往左往っぷり、そこはかとない「ばかばかしさ」（褒めてます）等々は、むしろ「フーコーの振り子」に近いように感じます。
とはいえ、ストーリーよりも文章をじっくり味わう類の本ではあるので、ゆっくりした気持ちでだらだら読むが吉。

発売後すぐに絶版となったいわく付きの書籍です（ここにはその理由は書きませんが）。

「全世界を変えるにはある一点を変えれば十分である」という考えに取りつかれた異端の学僧が主人公が、その探求の旅に出てシュピーゲルグランツと名乗る魔性の少年と出会い魂の契約を交わします。彼の身をつけねらう騎士や異端審問官マールテンとの論戦（ここが見もの）を経て、いよいよ真の秘義へと到達しようとします。そして・・・・・。

道具立てが面白く、難しいテーマを緻密な文体で華麗に書き上げています。しかも軽妙な掛け合いや随所に散りばめた遊びが物語を更に面白く、読みやすくしています。
活字中毒者は勿論、普段活字に馴染みの無い人達にも是非ご一読をお勧めする。
