最近は親米だとか反米とかいろいろあるが、
そもそもアメリカってどんな国？っていう方は少なくないだろう。

この本はそんな疑問に答える本です。サイズも大きくて見やすい。
アメリカは自由の国のイメージが強いがこれを読んだ後は別のイメージが
できあがるのではないかな。
これで物足りない、あるいは興味がでてきたのであれば、
専門書を読んでみてください。これで立派なアメリカマスター。

中学生でも読めそうな構成はさすが。
長い間子どもニュースをやってただけのことはある！

　池上彰氏の「そうだったのか！」シリーズ第4弾。私同様、「次はどんなテーマの本が出版されるのか」と待ち焦がれていたファンも多いことだろう。「私はアメリカが嫌いです」「私がアメリカが大好きです」その池上氏の率直な気持ちを表現したのが本書である。つかみどころのないアメリカを宗教、裁判、移民、差別、経済、メディアなどをテーマに、独自の視点でわかりやすく表現している。目次とはじめにを読んだだけで、読みたくなる一冊である。これまでのシリーズ以上に図表や写真も豊富で、私のように歴史に疎い者でも理解できそうな気になれる。本書の内容の一部をテーマに、日本テレビの「世界一受けたい授業」の先生として池上氏が出演していたのを見た。う~ん、出来る人というのは、こうも難しい問題を噛み砕いて話してくれるものなのか。次はどんな「そうだったのか！」を披露してくれるのか。今から楽しみである。

この本は「アメリカ合州国(あえて合衆国とは書かない)」に関する
最高の入門書である。
少しでもかの国に興味がある人であれば、
短時間で実に多くの「目から鱗」が体験できるだろう。

お勧めしたいのは入門者だけではない。
ある程度判ったつもりになっている人でも得るものはあるはずだ。
私は米国で1年間の生活経験があり、現在も米国資本の企業に勤務して
ある程度かの国が判ったつもりでいたが、
それでも十分に興味深く読むことが出来た。

作者が前書きで書く
「私はアメリカが大好きです」「私はアメリカが大嫌いです」
がこの本のスタンスを最も端的に表している。
素晴らしい文化や新しい考え方が米国からやって来る。
だから大好きになる。
大好きになったからいろいろ調べてみる。
調べてみるとましてや生活すると、本当に嫌なことにも出会う。
それは本当に大嫌いなことだ。
でも大好きと言う感情は捨てきれない。。。。

好きか嫌いか、結論を急ぐ必要はない。
まずはこの本を読んで事実を確認してみよう。
興味が湧いたら、より詳しい本は、ゴマンと溢れているのだ。
