番ねずみとは、番犬、番猫ではなく、ネズミが家の番をしたというお話です。
ヤカちゃんとは、「やかましい」から来た名前です。
最初はやかましいだけのネズミだと思われていたのに、やかましいことが訳に立つことがあることが分かります。
どんな特徴があっても、それが取り柄になることがあることを楽しく教えてくれます。

絵本というより児童書のサイズで文字も大きく、
いかにも低学年の子が自分で読むための本・・という感じですが、
読み聞かせたほうが楽しめます！
(実は読み方にちょっとコツがいるので、
読み聞かせる前に一度目を通したほうがいいですが)

すこし長めですが、とにかくおもしろいので、
幼稚園児でもぐいぐいひきこまれて最後まで楽しめます。
小学生の上の子と幼稚園児の下の子、
きょうだい一緒に楽しめる本がない~と嘆いている方に、絶対おすすめです！

　少し厚めの絵本の体裁なので、ある程度本を読める子ほど通り過ぎてしまいますが、読んだら「面白い！」「イイ！」という本は結構あります。その中でも、読んだら大爆笑間違いなし、なのが、この「ヤカちゃん」。忙しい毎日にちょっと心が疲れた時、仲良しの友達と一緒に読んで、笑って笑って受けてくれる、学校図書館や児童図書館にはぜひ置いておきたい一冊です。一応「ひとりだち」の話だし？
　大きくなった子供は決して自分から手には取らないので、「読んだことある？」という働きかけが必要です。
