お父さんとお母さん、幼児と赤ちゃんの四人が、夕方銭湯に向かいます。路地を曲がって、銭湯に向かうのですが、電信柱の広告まで、詳細に書かれていて、とても情緒があります。銭湯についてから、お父さんと幼児、お母さんと赤ちゃんの二手に分かれて男湯と女湯に入っていきます。男湯では、子供は大きな湯船に大はしゃぎして、泳いでおじさんにしかられます。女湯では、お乳の垂れたお祖母ちゃんも入浴しています。脱衣所には金魚がいて、牛乳を飲んでいる人がいて。お湯から上がった四人は、日が暮れた道を家路につきます。文字はひとつもないけれど、ほのぼのとした世界が広がります。「これなに？」「あ、牛乳飲んでるね」など、無限に会話が広がる楽しい絵本です。

字がないので、子どもはちゃんと見ていてくれるだろうかと
不安でしたが、反応は全くの反対で、食い入るように絵本を眺めています。
絵だけで十分ストーリーがあり、おふろやさんの風景も子どもにはとても珍しく、お話がいくつも出来上がります。字を追って読むよりも私自身も絵を見ながらお話を作っていくことがとっても楽しくて、大人も楽しめます。

本をじっと眺めている娘をみて、これは秀作であると実感してます。

丁寧でこまやかな絵になつかしいせつなさを感じる絵です。銭湯にいきたくなりました。子供の頃の銭湯ってこうだったよ、入浴料いくらだっけと、話が広がりました。たのしめました。
