　ユニークな絵とともに，父親，母親の語り口で読めるこの本を、クリスマスを迎えるころには何度読み聞かせたことでしょう。

　この本の中にはサンタクロースについて語るユーモラスな答えの中に，広くて深い子ども達への思いが感じられます。世界中の子ども達の幸せ，障害を持つ子も病気にかかっている子もみんなにたくさんの仲間とともにプレゼントをおくるというサンタの姿は理想とする大人の姿なのでしょうか。

　子ども達はこんなこと答えられないだろうと思って質問しているのでしょうが，自身たっぷりでもっともらしく答える姿に親の愛情とは何かを感じました。

　キリスト教信者ではないけれど、子供達にはサンタクロースを信じていてほしい、そんな日本の親のもやもやとした心中を見事に代弁している本です。読んでて大人は思わず「うんうん・・・使える」と頷くんじゃないかな。クリスマスプレゼントにも良いんですが、クリスマスの前に読むと、子供の「サンタはいるのか」議論に一石を投じて面白いかも。発端がお風呂の中での父子の会話だったり、答える母はコタツで年賀状書いてたりと、挿し絵が何げに楽しいです。
　たとえこの本にちりばめられた謎かけがわかっても、それはそれで素晴らしいことだと私は思います。

月刊誌かがくのとも153号（折り込み付録に、掲載すべきでない記述有）のハード化。
学校に行きだしたら、早かれ遅かれ'いる''いない'論争が子どもたちの間で交わされます。
なんだかこちらまで、本当なのかドキドキします。
この本は必ず彼が'存在'するというスタンスです。
信じてたけど来なかった子供時代にこの本を読んだら、どう感じたかな？納得しただろうか？
ちなみに子どもの枕元には今のところ毎年来てますよ。うらやましい限りです。
信じてるなら「天使のクリスマス」ピーター・コリントン著も読んでみて。
