黒の細いペンでのスケッチに、薄い緑で彩色された森の中に､色んな生き物が隠されています。

生き物はサイズや向きも様々で、わりとすぐわかるモノから、本当に見つけにくいモノまで色々。

子供はまだ小さいので、描かれている生き物も知らないものの方が多いのですが、知っているモノを見つけると大喜び。
「カタツムリどーこだ？」と何度も何度もページをめくります。

子供と一緒に見ていると、今まで見つけられなかった生き物がふっと見えてきます。
でも、いつか子供が全部自分で見つけられる日まで､教えたいのをグッと我慢です。

後ろに、どのページにどんな生き物がいるのかが書いてあります。
文字だけの一覧で、図解はないので、自分の見つけたモノも本当に合っているかはわかりませんが、あくまでも自分で探す楽しみがあります。
安野さんが描いたつもりのない生き物もみつけられます。(笑)

表紙を含め、16の森のスケッチに130以上の生き物がいます。

小さい頃にプレゼントで貰ったんだったっけな？
渋い絵本です。

文章を読むのが好きだったので、開いた時はがっかり…
カラフルな挿絵もないし、面白いストーリーもない…

なのに何故か、ずーっと眺めてました。
ちっとも飽きませんでした。

20代半ばの今でも、全ての答えを見つけることができません。

安野先生の作品にしては使われてる色が少なく、黒と緑のみ。まあ、森なので仕方ないとしても、隠されている動物までが緑の保護色で描かれていて・・・探すのは困難。カラフルな絵の中から特定の人物を探すものや、多数の小物で構成された場面から指定された小物を探し出すなど、「隠し絵本」というジャンルに分けられるものを最近よく見かけますね。この安野先生の『もりのえほん』を同じレベルで考えてはいけないようです。必要最小限の色を使って、点描画にも匹敵する緻密さで描かれた架空の森。すべての動物が「本気で隠れている」ので、目を皿のようにして本気で探しましょう。
最後のページに正解が載っていますが、ページ数とそのページに隠れている動物の名前が記載されているだけなので、結局自力で探すしかないようです。私自身、まだ数匹発見できておりませんが、全部の動物を発見するのはいつになるやら・・・。作品のタッチや「隠し絵本」としての難易度を考えても、子供向けというよりは大人が楽しめる作品ではないかと思います。
