表紙画像が載っていないのが残念。初山滋はとても著名な挿絵画家だそうで、そうとは知らず子供ながらに透明でナヨナヨっとしたこの絵の不思議な魅力に強い印象を受けました。大人になってすっかり忘れていましたが、ある時ネットでこの絵本の表紙画像を見つけたとたん、本当に一ページ一ページの絵柄の記憶がよみがえってきたんです。子供の頃の記憶って本当に強く残るんですね。だからやっぱり子供にはよいものを見せなくっちゃです！

表紙は初山滋の「もず」のような淡い色合いで描かれています。1963年の7月に発行され、「こどものとも」から出ています。

年長の時に子どもは読みましたが、内容が難しく初山滋のイラストにあまり魅力を感じなかったようです。大人の私が見ると非常にモダンで美しい挿絵ですが、年長ではまだはっきりとした色あいを好む時期だったようです。

我が家では小学校低学年になって初めて本書の良さがわかってきました。学校で絵の具を使う授業があるせいか、色使いの微妙さが新鮮に映ったようです。

雨が降るから会えないのではありません。雨はおりひめが流す涙で、かささぎの橋の上で、毎年７日二人は会うことが出来るのです。心温まる良書だと思います。小学校低学年のお子さんにお勧めします。

初山滋と言えば、たぶん４０才前後の方でしたら、きっと小学校の教科書の表紙で記憶にある方も居られるかもしれません。現代でも充分魅力のあるデザイン性は、こたえられません（≧_≦）
