子供のころ、何度も何度も読み返したロビンソン・クルーソーを
大人になって久しぶりに読みたくなり、購入してみることにしました。

久しぶりに読むので、子供のころの薄い本ではなく
より詳しく書かれているであろう厚めの本を購入してみました。
元々は大人向けの本で、ベストセラーの本なのだそうですが、
詳しく書かれている分、少し詳し過ぎて、
私には、あまり夢がないと思う部分がありました。
なので、子供向けの薄い本の方が、楽しかったのかなとは思いますが、
この本は、ロビンソン・クルーソーが、無人島に流されてしまうことで
さまざまな事物に感謝をしていくところがとても印象に残ります。
大人が読んでも教えてもらえることが多い作品だと思いました。

字が大きいし、児童文学であるため内容も分かりやすい。
他の人の訳文は読みにくかった。

特に岩波文庫は訳文がわかりにくいだけでなく字が小さい。
ただ、坂井晴彦訳は前篇の島を脱出するところまでしかない。

「無いものねだりをして不平をぶつぶつこぼすのは、今与えられているものに対して感謝する気持ちが不足しているせいだろう。」

「ものがいくら豊富にあっても、私にとって値打があるのは、自分が費やす分だけでそれ以上は邪魔だった。」

どのような状況におちいっても感謝すべきことがらがあること。
本当に豊かなことは、少ないもので満足できる心。

そんなことを学ばせてくれた。
