この絵本、子供の頃大好きで繰り返し読んだものです。
今は母となり子供の絵本として即購入しました。いたずらっこの王様とおちゃめなニワトリ。ストーリーも絵もどちらもかわいくて、面白くて、毎日毎日読んでいたのを思い出します。
文字数が多いのでじっと絵本を聞いていられないお子さんにはおすすめできませんが、絵本が好きなお子さんには絶対喜ばれると思います。

おちゃめな王様がやらかす失敗がなんともいえず楽しいお話です。
長新太さんのとぼけた絵がぴったり。文章のリズムもいい。
そして、なんといっても最後のオチがいい！！
子供のころに一番好きで何度も読んでもらった絵本です。実家にはクレヨンでいたずら書きされたこの本が未だに大事にとってあります。
王様の食事（チューインガムなんかが朝ご飯にでてくるんですよ）が、非常にうらやましく思った覚えがあります。

まだ1才になったばかりの息子はストーリーが理解できないのではないかと思うのですが、とても気に入っていて1日に何度もせがまれます。
時には読み終わっていないページをめくったりもするので、長新太さんの赤を大胆に使った絵に引きつけられているのでしょうか。
もう少して、このストーリーの面白さを一緒に味わえることを楽しみにしています。

ただ、文章は少し読みにくく感じます。
