　これまでほとんど知られていなかった、宮中三殿の諸行事や、そこに仕える女性たちの生活を、57年間仕えた高谷さんが初めて語った貴重な本です。
　しかし惜しまれることに、「東久邇宮」を「東久爾宮」とか、「三笠宮やす（字が出ない）子様」を「康子様」とか、皇族のお名前の字の間違いが目立ちます。恐れ多くも宮中についての本だというのに、いったいどうしたことでしょう。これは語り手の高谷さんが悪いのではなく、書き手である「太田さとし」氏と出版元の「ビジネス社」が皇室のことをあまり知らないからでしょう。太田氏は元新聞記者とのことですが、報酬を貰って物を書くのに皇族のお名前すらきちんと調べもしないとは言語道断ですね。
　こういう基本的な間違いが目立つと、その他の記述内容もどこかしら間違いがあるのではないかと、読んでいて不安になります。

タブーの多い皇室の中でもとりわけ全く情報がなかった「宮中三殿」に仕える専門の女官「内掌典」の”最後”の一人となった高谷朝子氏の体験談をまとめた本です。
何しろ女性ばかりの閉鎖空間と言うことで大奥や宮廷女官と共に色眼鏡で見られがちなところですが（事実そういう興味本位で書いた嘘ばかりの記事も某ムックで見たことがあります）、実際の中の生活は毎日毎日同じ事の繰り返しで、一般人からみたら仕事は忙しくても退屈になるのではないかと思ってしまいます。しかも神事に関わりの場所であるため「次清」（穢れた状態と清浄な状態）を通常の神社以上に重視し、トイレの行き方や就寝の仕方まで非常に制約されることには驚きました。また、天皇家の神事に関わる場所でありながら、思いの外実際の天皇一家との接触が薄い場所であることも興味深かったです。現在完全に洋風化した皇室の中で、唯一和装和式での生活を続けている場所と言うことで、宮廷風俗に興味のある方にも一読をお奨めしたいです。
ただ、他の方も言及されていますが、漢字の使い方（例えば「立涌」を「縦枠」と書く）など用語に関するパンチミスが散見されたのは残念です。

皇室が他国の王室と何か違うと感じていましたが、それには祭祀によって裏打ちされた威厳があったからだと感じ入りました。
平安から続く伝統を護り伝えてこられたすばらしい日本人がいたことに感動しています。
80歳を超える筆者の人生訓から学ぶべきものも多々ある書だと思います。
日本人が日本古来の文化を知る必読の書ですね。
