三木谷氏の生い立ちから、楽天社長として大成するまでの足跡がここまで詳細にわたって記されている書籍は他に類を見ない。さらに、同時代の日本経済の流れが詳細にわたって記述されており、一時代を知る上でもおおいにオススメできる。
ただ、「教祖降臨」というタイトルは大げさな感がぬぐえない。また、孫正義氏と三木谷氏を極端に対極化する論調はステレオタイプ的に感じざるをえない。

三木谷氏のことがびっくりするほど書いてありません。興銀に入るまでの話はくわしくありますが、その後は、三木谷氏の周りで起こった事象及びそれらが関係する事項の説明という感じです。
興銀の末期、プロ野球球団買収、フジテレビとの関係に特段興味がある方は参考になるかもしれません。

孫正義のような破天荒な人物は、目標になりにくい
三木谷のようなエリートではあるけれども「普通」さを
持ち合わせた人物こそ、ビジネスパーソンのロールモデルになりうる　-

大ウソだと思う。

確かに孫は当代随一の傑物だが、その行動力の源はおおよそ推測できる。
逆境をバネにのしあがる、というのは成功のパターンとしては、まあベタな方だろう。

だが、三木谷に関してはその動機というものがまったく見えてこない。
本文では、身内が阪神大震災にあって
「自分もいつか死ぬんだから、生きているうちにやりたいことをやろう」
と思った、とういことになっているが、
どうも腑に落ちない。ほんとにそれだけの理由で、こんな大企業作っちゃったの？

筆者もおそらく、連載を通じて三木谷の素顔を晒していくというねらいが
あったのだろうが、それはものの見事に裏切られていく。
読めば読むほど、三木谷の鉄面皮ぷりが際立つ。
何を考えているかまったく読めない。

しかし、その鉄面皮こそが三木谷の魅力なのだろう。
だって俺は今、この男のことが知りたくて仕方がない。
