雑誌の記事４本に、加筆・修正したものだそうです。「暗号などの仕組み」に関するもの２本。Ｗｅｂ等で使われる「認証方式」に関するもの１本。IPsecでの通信方式や構成する技術を説明したもの１本です。

分量的には、暗号の仕組み・動作原理とIPsecの説明の部分が多かった気がします。

どれも、特に前提知識なしで読めます。内容の重複もあり、また、図も大きいためか、ボリュームは、思ったほどなく、「さらっと」と読めて、基礎知識がつく本であると思います。

日経ネットワーク雑誌の連載記事をまとめた、入門書で、
大変わかりやすく、理解が進みました。

構成としては、暗号の基礎、対象鍵暗号、公開鍵暗号、
暗号化方式など、だいたいの知識範囲は、わかりやすくカバー
されています。

認証方式は、方式とキーワードを理解する程度には書かれており
入門としては十分でしょう。

最後は、IPSecの基礎知識の理解と、トラブルシューティングですが、
ここを読むと、IPSecを使いこなすには、対応機器などの知識
が必要ということで、二の足を踏みそうになります。

この分野では、最初に読むにはお奨めです。

難点をあえてあげれば、暗号基礎と暗号の中身の章が重複している
ことでしょうか。記事再編本ですので、
ある程度は仕方ないかもしれません。

暗号や認証技術に接したことがない人にお薦めできる絶好の入門書です。
技術者には物足りないかもしれませんが、文系の初心者には親切な内容となっています。

同じような内容が重複するという批判もありますが、初心者にとっては重要なポイントが繰り返し説明された方が理解の助けになりますので、特に抵抗やストレスは感じないと思います。

仕事でITセキュリティに携わっていますが、暗号や認証技術の入門者にこの本を薦めるようにしています。
