　　著者は、花王でＦＤ事業の失敗を経験し、この教訓を活かし、エコナ食用油と
ヘルシア緑茶を成功に導いた方です。エコナ／ヘルシアの成功談は昨今、多く目
にしますが、本書は､著者が携わったＦＤ事業の経験が会社としてどのように活か
されたのかが興味深い部分でした。
　　著者は、ＦＤ事業は、世界標準規格化が新規参入のチャンスになった反面で、
市場拡大に伴い多数の新規メーカが参入した結果、供給過剰になり未曾有の価
格下落が起こり、利益が出ず撤退せざるを得なくなったと言います。 自社の強み
を活かせない事業は、最終的に生き残れないことを強く痛感したそうです。そこで
新規事業の立ち上げには以下の２つが不可欠だと学んだそうです。
　　1商品を差別化すること
　　2顧客へ提供できる独自の新しい価値の創造を最重要目標にすること
ヘルシア／エコナが２点とも満足することは誰もが認めることだと思います。花王
という会社の底力を知るとともに、 社会的に存在価値を高く評価される企業が如
何にあるべきかを教えられる一書だと思いました。

「そのとおり！」と頷いてしまうのは、「言う奴がやる奴」という花王の社風です。商品企画にかかわらず新しいことに着手するときには、一番苦しんで考え抜いたものが当該事業を担当するのがもっともふさわしい、との点にまったく同感です。
研究開発について、人の後を追わず、とことんまで自分で考えきって、自分を信じて突破すること。しかし常に勉強を怠らず謙虚であるべきことなど、まさに心がけるべきことがメッセージ的に書かれています。
