2002年の8-9月に、著者のコレクションが成田山書道美術館で展覧されたおり、展覧図録を兼ねて制作されたものです。私は2002/9/1に鑑賞し、旧拓全套開通褒斜道刻石(p18)、明烏金拓雁塔聖教序(p48)、豊坊刻の神龍半印本蘭亭序(p138)には強い印象を受けました。

良質のカラー写真を多く収録している事は、ありがたいことです。拓本は一般にはモノクロ印刷が主流です。しかし良いカラー写真でみると拓本の質を感じることができます。

書の手本や鑑賞のために制作された拓本には大きく分けて、有名人の手紙や詩を手本として木や石板に彫ったものを拓本にした法帖と、古代の石碑を拓本にした碑拓があります。著者は法帖が好きなようで、薦季直表(p24)、神龍本蘭亭序(p26)、観ることが難しい安刻本書譜(p50)など優れた法帖が収録されています。また、淡い色の拓より濃い拓のほうがお好きなように感じました。ところどころに石碑の原石の写真があるのはうれしいことだと思います。全套の拓本を参考図版として横に掲載するのはありがたいのですが、これが、ここでアップになっている拓本の全体像なのか、それとも他の拓本を参考図版として挙げているのかが不明確なのは残念です。

著者が何等かの点で面白いと思ったものを収録している本ですので、必ずしも名品選というわけではありません。例えば張遷碑(p98)は「清末民国期のごく普通の近拓本」と著者が記すものですが、日本の近代書道の開拓者：日下部鳴鶴が持っていて書き込みをした本という意味で紹介されています。珍しい「エイ拓」(p68)もあります。これは、拓本ではなく、拓本のまねをした絵画の一種です。勿論「董美人墓誌」(p42),前述の開通褒斜道刻石など、国内の博物館にも殆どない貴重品も多数収録されています。
後記(p241)には、最近出版された本への批評・著者の思い出があり、興味深く読みました。各図版についている経験に裏打ちされたコメントも貴重です。

書道手本ではないので、ほとんどが部分写真で全文が収録されてはいないことは留意してください。
