　評者は毎年北海道に行くのにフェリーに乗船する。東京に住んでいて船に乗ることはまずないが、西日本には島の数が多く、船で通勤通学している人もかなりいるだろう。そもそも船って何なのだろう？とふと考えた人におすすめ。
　本書では船はなぜ浮くか？ということからはじまり、船酔いのメカニズム、酔いやすい場所などの記載もあり、船酔いを避けたい人にはちょっとした情報となるだろう。また、船はすぐに止まれない、ということも知識で知っていたが、急ブレーキをかけると曲がって止まる、ということもはじめて知った。走錨（そうびょう）という専門用語も知った。
　本書に加えて、代表的な船の写真が掲載された図鑑チックな本も併せて買えば、港に行くのもかなり楽しめると思う。

4.0 out of 5 stars 説明は簡単で解りやすい。しかしながら基本が解ってないと理解に苦しむかも。, 2006/10/17
船の雑学というよりは造船などで必要とされる知識の予習のような感じの本です。船の浮かぶ原理から最近の船の形や搭乗されている機械の説明がされています。
絵は大きくて３色刷りなので見やすく、説明も言いたいことだけを説明してくれるので飽きることなく読めます。
大学でベルヌーイの式などの基本を習ったからこの本が解りやすく感じたのですが、いきなりこの本から入ろうとすると理論のところで苦しむかもしれません。
