五輪書に書かれているほとんどの項目を解説しています。発売日から察すると、ＮＨＫの大河ドラマ目当てに作られたようですが、読み応えがあり骨のある内容です。

もともと、ビジネス書の五輪書（仕事に生かせ的な内容）で興味をもち、岩波の五輪書にトライしたのですが挫折。ハードルが高すぎました。次がこの本でした。「目から鱗」は言い過ぎですが、分かりやすさは随一だと思います。

残念ながら、全ての項目を網羅していません。若干取り扱っていない項目がありますが、この本を読んでから、岩波のを読めば、何となく理解できました。
本格的に武道や剣術に携わっている方には物足りない本でしょう。その反面、剣道などの武道を習っている中高生や大人には楽しめる内容です。宮本武蔵の真似ではないですが「後悔をせず」ですね。

柳生宗矩「兵法家伝書」も出てほしいです。

五輪書本を買おうと何冊も見比べましたが、各項目を詳しく、しかも分かりやすく（ここが大切です！）解説しているのは、この本だけかも。他にも「図解」や「分かりやすい」と書いてある本もありますが、やはり読み物中心で、図解は参考程度のものばかりです。じっくりと読みこみたい人にはおすすめできないけれど、中高生はもちろん、今まで五輪書を読んだことのない人にとっては「五輪書」がどういうものなのかを把握することができる一冊だと思います。
この本で内容をつかんで、講談社学術文庫の五輪書で詳しく読みこむパターンが、私のおすすめです。ルビ付きなのも助かります。

初めて五輪書について触れる際にはうってつけの入門書と言えます。「図解雑学シリーズ」は、このほかにも多くのテーマを扱っています。いくつか読んでいますが、なかなかわかりやすいので、何か調べようとする場合の本格的に取り組む前の書物として位置づけられやすいと思います。
『地の巻』『水の巻』『火の巻』『風の巻』『空の巻』。宮本武蔵という人は、生命をかけた仕事をしていたわけで、そこからくる緊張感や、極めたものを追求する姿勢と眼力、敵との心理戦術に関する思考など、「勝つこと」を目的とした剣術についての考え方を厳しい心でつきつめています。
