中央線女子物語、と帯にあるとおり中央線沿線で健気に生きている８人の女子たちのオムニバスです。

すごく笑えるわけでもなく、泣けるわけでもなく、でもそれでいて何だか胸を締め付けられるような日常が描かれていて。漫画っていいな〜、と思ってしまう傑作だと思います。

決してアニメになるような注目を集める作品ではないかもしれませんが、読んで良かったと思える漫画です。

中央線沿線に住む八人の少女が主人公。
はやりの街の擬人化などではない。その街を愛し、その街の特徴にどっぷりと染まり、そんな自分や住人をシニカルに、愛情をもって見つめるさまが、全編モノローグで描かれている。

これはおそらく４コマ漫画における新しい展開だと思う。

たとえばいしいひさいちのように、吉田戦車のように、今後新しく出てくる４コマ作家に影響を与え、亜流をつくり、しかし、いしいひさいちや吉田戦車と同じように、オリジナルにはとうてい手は届かないのだろう。

「モノクローム線」にでてくる少女や女性たちの視線の先にはおもしろおかしな現象はなく、彼らは自分たちが滑稽な存在であり、おかしなことをしているさまを冷静に、ああるいは憐憫を持って、またあるいは笑い飛ばしながら見つめている。
あくまでも自身のおかしさ、変さを自覚しないいしいひさいちのキャラクターや、その変さを周りも受け入れる変な世界を構成する吉田戦車ともまた違う。

どこか私小説でも読んでいる気になる静かな画面は、唇をちょっと横に引いくというシニカルな笑いが似合う。

　中野のイラストレーターなのか(作者がモデル)、高円寺で古着屋を営むマドカ等８人の女性が逃れようとしても、逃れる事の出来ないＪＲ中央線沿線の魅力を互いに出会う事も交わる事もなく語ってくれる４コママンガです。
　読み始めると彼女達がイヤイヤながら気づかされる、あるいは思い知らされるその魅力に、知らないうちにドンドン引き込まれていきます。
