16巻あたりから始まったエピソード、そして「天」という物語も一応の幕を閉じます。
最後はとにかくすごかった。福本先生のすごさは読んでみないとわからない。
自分は「アカギ」も読んでいるのですが、あの赤木がこんな風に・・、
と特に僧我とのナインとの時は思いました。この「天」でも健在だったあの神がかった闘牌。
その赤木が病によってここまで・・と。
　でも最後まで読んで、やはり赤木という人物の魅力は自分の中で丸で衰えを知らず、
それどころかその最後が本当に本当に悲しかった。アルツハイマーによって赤木自らが幕を閉じた53年の生涯は、どうしようもなく魅了されてしまうのです。福本先生が描きたかったのは
赤木その人だったのではないか、と思ってしまうほどです。
　そして、主人公の天。どうも東西戦の途中までは赤木の凄さに潜んでしまった感じがあったのですが、最後の赤木に対する思いをぶちまけたあの言葉の数々。それまで何とか堪えていた涙をもはや止める事が出来ませんでした。あのシーンの彼は赤木に負けず劣らず本当に魅力的だった。赤木という天才にとってこの死は必然かもしれないと思いつつも、「自分の為に」と泣きながら家族になろうと説得する天。自分は赤木のその才能、人柄、生き方に憧れてしまいますが、しかし赤木には近づく事も出来ないと思う。赤木の死生観、それに納得した気になりつつも心打たれたのはやはり天のあの涙、言葉なんです。
　二人麻雀はともかく、最後のエピソードは長くなって少し後悔しつつも納得できた、とあとがきにありました。自分にとってみれば最高の3巻、最高のラスト、そして最高の感動でした。
「天」という漫画に出会えて本当に良かった。

1人でも多く読んで欲しい作品
この作品を通じ赤木の言葉が心に響き、強くなれたもは数知れず。
ネットを徘徊していても、赤木が野郎共に「赤木さん」と、心の底から慕われているのが分かる。

脳が生死の区別すらつかなくなる寸前に選んだ「飛散」
それは決して自殺でない。
むしろ可能な限り生きて生きていかなければ、と思わせる飛散
赤木の言葉、生き様、死に様に救われた者は多いだろう。

「飛散」を選べるのは、神域な生き様を全うできた、ただ一名のみ。
その域に足元も及ばない我々凡人はズルズル・おめおめと生き続けるのみ。

早い話・・・赤木のように生きるのだ・・・可能な限り・・・！
人生の実は・・・ただ生きることの中に・・・！

本作品でアカギの生き様（死に様？）を描いた作者の「死生観」は、
養老孟司が「死の壁」「真っ赤なウソ」などに書いていた
生と死のあり方に関するメッセージとかなり近い。

ただし、養老孟司が科学者（というか医者）特有の「無機的な理」を、
強引な論理構成でねじ伏せるように伝えようとしているのに対し、
福本伸行は、養老孟司と極めて近いレベル（おそらくはこの種の問答の到達点）に達していながら、
養老孟司よりはるかに明快かつ感動的に伝えている。

養老孟司が注目を集めるようになった今（2004年10月）でこそ、
この種の考え方は我々の共通認識になりつつあるが、
２年以上も前にこのような作品があったことは驚愕に値する。
両氏の思考レベルはほぼ互角（というかどちらもほぼ到達点）ながら、
「メッセージ」という面で見ると、
福本伸行の方が圧倒的に明快で、優れている。
また、あいまいな表現によって、
作品から偶発的に生まれたメッセージではなく、
確信をもって、ひとつのメッセージを、
明確に伝えていることを考えると、福本伸行は「超」がつく天才。
特に「天」のラスト3巻（16~18巻）は秀逸だ。

ぜひみなさんも福本伸行、養老孟司両氏の作品を
自分なりに比較してほしい（養老孟司の本も突出して優れているので）。
