コント５５号の全盛期を知る人にとっては、何とも魅力的な本だと思います。天才肌をもって謡われた欽ちゃんこと萩本欽一さんは、想像以上の下積みを経験されていました。小劇場からＴＶへ雪崩を打って演芸人が進出してゆく中で、ＴＶの方法論によらず、逆に自分たちの笑いでＴＶそのものの笑いを変えてゆく様が、重苦しい葛藤とともに描かれています。ナイーブな笑いの革命者、反逆者と言えます。コント５５号の演出は欽ちゃんに支えられていたのは確かですが、欽ちゃんのアドリブに強烈に対抗できる人が二郎さんだったということも良く分かります。やはり不世出のコンビですね。コント５５号の笑いは、この二人だけのもので、ジャンルに括られない凄さがあります。この本は、二人の出会いの頃から、売れっ子になるまでの時代が描かれていて、笑いの原点が偲ばれます。二人の伝記に近いでしょうか。コントの凄さについては今ひとつ十分とは思えませんでしたが、こればかりは実物を見ないと無理でしょうか。ちょっと後半端折っている感じもしますが、５５号のファンの方には十分お勧めできます。
