「筋ジス」という難病と闘う少年とその家族。しかしこの本はよくある「闘病記」とはひと味違っている。一家揃って社交的で楽しいことが大好きなこの「吉村ファミリー」に「悲愴な涙」は見られない。５年前に告知を受けた時でさえ、普段と全く変わらなかった両親の笑顔の奧に隠れていた。そしてみんなに真実を告げた昨年のクリスマス。毎年一家の笑顔一杯のクリスマスカードを楽しみに待っていた800人の仲間たちがその事実を知った時でも、カードに描かれていたのは、いつも通りの「溢れる笑顔」だった。
最後の頁に挿入された少年の直筆の文章からも、病を「トロフィー」だと言う少年の誇らしげな笑顔が目に浮かぶ。
同じ年頃の子供達はもちろん、たくさんの方に読んで欲しいと思う。
