さすがに噺家さんの本だけあって笑える笑える！言葉の端端にオチは付いてるし。ひとりで読みながらクスクスやっていたら中学生の娘がどうしても読みたいと言い出した。彼女はこれがどういう本なのかも何も知らない。が、願ったりかなったり！読ませたいなあとひそかに思っていたので薦める前にそう言われてうれしかった。彼女のようにきっかけはどうあれこの本を読んでくれる人がたくさんになるといいなあと思う。そして「うちにも来てね」「うちだって来いよ」という人がたくさん増えてダウン症の子がなんの抵抗もなく受け入れられていく世の中になればいいな。うちの娘もこの本を読んで将来「うちにも来ていいよ」というお母さんになってくれたらなあ．．．

なにしろこんなに笑えるダウン症関連の本は初めてでした。ダウン症児の母親である私は今までにも何冊か家族が書いた本を読んできましたが、感動で涙する事はあっても読みながら思わず笑ってしまえるのは団六さんのが初めてでした。３ヶ月前に念願の弟を出産しました。丁度この子がお兄ちゃんの存在をどんな風に感じていくのか色々考えていたところでした。なんと良いタイミングでこの本に出会えた事か。。。。どうぞノリオさんを見つめる団六さんのような心を持って育っていってくれます様に！！最後にさすが落語家さん。笑いをさそう小気味良い文章、最高でした。

　上方落語家・露の団六さんが重度のダウン症の兄「ノリオ」との事を書いた半生記である。毎日新聞に連載され、好評だったエッセイに加筆している。
まるで彼の落語を聞いているような文章。読んで笑って涙する。

　「ノリオ」が小学校に上がる年齢になると、区役所から｢就学猶予願い」を出すように言われる。｢別に、願ってへんがな。何でやねん」。

　団六さんが小学校のとき、何組かのダウン症の親子で温泉にいくことになる。「おかんたち」は男湯に入れないので、団六さんが「ノリオ」と何人かのダウン症の子どもたちの面倒を見ることになる。脱衣所で彼らはパンツをかぶり、興奮して騒ぐ。ついに、着替えていた人に怒られる。
「お前ら、あほかあ」
「そうですねん、あほですわ」とも言えず、バッタみたいに謝った。

「こんな境遇に生まれるのを『不幸』という人がいる。確かにそうかもしれない。望んでダウン症を産む親はいない。望んで兄弟になる者もいない。（略）けれど私にはノリオ以外のきょうだいは考えられないのである。ノリオが賢くて、立派な、凄い、兄貴だったら、私は、ものすごく嫌なやつになっていたはずである。ノリオはあほである。けれど、私にはノリオが必要なのである」
「おわりに」に書かれている文章は、軽妙だが重い。
