病院に勤める看護師です。日頃、痴呆のある患者さんそのご家族の方と接することも多いのですが、患者さんがたの悩みや苦悩は想像以上に深いものです。この本はひとつほとつの文章がとても簡潔でかつ印象的で、心にしみてきます。どなたにでも読みやすく患者さんがたの心に触れることのできる本だと思いました。

かつて介護施設に勤めておりました。
痴呆（認知症という名称に変わりましたが）の方とも
関わらせていただきました。
同じように生きている人間でありながら、同じ日本人でありながら
行き違うこともたびたびでした。
それは、痴呆患者を抱える家族の方に対してであったり、
痴呆の方とのことであったり。
そのたびに、戸惑ったり、家に帰って泣いたこともあります。
毎日が、戦いでした。
患者やその家族だけが抱えられる問題ではない、と思います。
周囲の方の協力もあってこそ乗り越えられることもあります。
私は、ぜひ痴呆を知らない人にも読んでいただきたい。
そして、少しでも現実を知って欲しい、と願っています。

呆け老人をかかえる家族の会が
会員からの率直な一言一言を一冊にまとめた本。

どれも1ページにもならない、短文で読みやすく、
その分ストレートに本人と家族の思いが伝わってくる。

手記などと違い、開いたページをそのまま読むことが出来、
介護に忙しい家族も目を通しやすい本。
実際に介護をする家族の方に配布しましたが、概ね好評でした。

私自身は介護者ではなく、仕事として介護に携わる身ですが、
この本を読んでいたら自然に涙が出ました。
専門職として関わる中で、どうしても見えにくくなりがちな
本人と家族の関係、互いの思いを率直に感じられる本なので、
専門職にこそ読んで欲しい本かもしれません。
