前々からこの本の評価の高さから新版で無いかなと思ったらやっぱり出た第二版。
単なるモデリングの本というより、テクスチャーや3DCGにおけるデザイン要素など、美術的な視点からも多少書かれていて、初心者の方にはとても読み応えのある本に仕上がってます。
独学で少しやってて何となく辞めちゃった方には最適な内容です。
使用ソフトはLightwave v9ですが、知識的な部分は他のソフトでも活用できるかと思います。

シェアの数からいってやむを得ないことですが、競合書はWindows OSマシンとメタセコイア（レジスト済）とその有志作プラグインを所持・使用可能であること、ものによっては業務用3DCGソフトでの仕上げ・PS2など家庭用ゲームソフトでの運用を前提に書かれています。モデリングのこつなどいくつか勉強になる記事もあるのですが、「メタセコイアありき」で解説されていることに変わりありません。

この本のすばらしいところはLightwave 7.5（付属体験版はｖ9）を解説ソフトに使いながらも、たった１つのソフトにフォーカスしたり特定機能に依存することなく、ローポリモデルのいろはから2D・3Dで異なる物体の捉え方、目から鱗の「ローポリならではのモデリングと発想の転換法」を丁寧に解説していること。

解説内容は初心者を見捨てず、中級者におもねず。そのノウハウは、ポリゴンモデリング機能を持つソフトであればほぼ種類を問わず活用できます。

メタセコイアのないMacユーザーでも、Lightwaveはもちろん、六角大王Super４・Blender・Cheetah3D・Shade Basic（意外にもポリゴンモデラー機能に関しては上位グレードと遜色ありません）…そう、Macでもローポリモデリングから3DCGを始められるのです。

次期OS SnowLeopardではOpenCL対応を皮切りとした「Macと3DCGの親和性強化」がアナウンスされています。メタセコイアのないMacで3DCGなんて…と諦める前に、この本を水先案内人に選んでみて下さい。あとはあなたのやる気・根気・熱意次第です。

　これほしくてもなかなか無くて探してたので、新版と聞いて即買いです
内容は、ローポリ中心にLightWaveで解説していて
モデリング、UV、テクスチャ、ボーンと、LightWaveを使用の方
これから始める人には最適だと思います。
　他のソフト使ってる人でも応用は利くと思いますので、初心者からそれ以外の方でも持っていても損は無いです。
