5.0 out of 5 stars CentOS向け解説書の本命, 2008/2/23
各種Linuxディストリビューションの解説書の中で、本書を含めた「XXXXで作るネットワークサーバ構築ガイド」は、内容量、質ともに最もバランスが良いです。一方、フリーのLinuxディストリビューションの中では、ビジネス環境において最も注目されているという状況の中で、CentOS向けの解説書は中途半端な本が多く、個人的には本シリーズでの出版を待望していました。全くの初心者にはとっつき難いかもしれませんが、Linuxのインストールくらいはしたことがあるという方には、間違いなくお勧めできます。

他のCentOSと名のついた本は、殆どCentOSの解説書なのかLinux一般の解説書なのあいまいな本しか存在しないという状況においては、本書はCentOSを扱う人には必携と言い切って良いと思います。

当方、同じシリーズのFedoraCore5を所持し、
さらにこの本を購入しました。
CentOS5が、間接的にFC5を踏襲しているので、
各サービスのバージョンの差異も少ないため、内容はほぼ同じでした。
named.caching-nameserver.confなどのCentOS向けの追記事項や
Xenについても書かれていましたが、LVMの操作方法などは、
割愛されていました(FC5版には記載あり)。
個人的に、このシリーズは良本であり、お勧めしたいです。
が、Fedora版と比較して、以下の点で、星４つとしました。
・前バージョン(CentOS4)との比較がない
・割愛されている箇所が多い
・上記を踏まえて同じ値段

初めてLinuxでサーバ構築をやるのにこの本を使ってみましたが
細かい説明がいまいち少ない。
sendmailは設定が複雑なので、.mcファイルの解説をもう少し分かりやすく詳細に書いて欲しい。
また、qmailの解説も入れるべき。
iptablesの解説が不親切で、この解説だけでは使いこなせないでしょう。
結局WEBで調べてやることになってしまい、その方が理解できたので
後半はほとんど本を読まず。
結局これを買った意味があまりなかった。
