LINUX系の入門書は数多くありますが
最新のFedoraCore2をベースとした書籍はこれがはじめて

今までの入門書はインストールなどの初期設定を簡単に省いたり
設定項目の変更をGUI操作だけでしか説明しなかったりと
物足りなさを感じるものが多いですが
本書では本格的にLINUXをはじめようと考えている人の
足がかりとなる本といえます

準備編・基本編では確りとした説明と
注意書きやヒント　陥りやすい失敗など丁寧に書かれており
またインストールでは最小構成から説明されており
安定性や快適性など考慮して一つ一つ丁寧に
図柄やカラーなどを多用し説明されています
終始コマンドベースの操作で話が進むので
LINUXに触れているという実感がもて
それだけでも十分見ごたえがあるのですが

後半部分ではサーバーとして導入する際の項目も充実しています

DHCPの設定やDNSの設定をイントラネットで扱う場合や
インターネットで公開するための手順も詳しく書いてあります
意外と他書で省略されがちな
細かいapacheの設定についても触れられており
セキュアで本格的な運用を目指す人にお勧めです！
もちろんFedoraCore2のCDが付属しているので

PCさえあればすぐ導入できます

個人的に便利だと思ったのは簡単に知りたいことが
逆引きできることと値段が安いのもお勧め

僕はこの本を買う前にもLinuxでサーバーを立てるための本を買ったが，大抵はGUIベースでちょいちょいと設定してしまうものであった．実際，サーバーを管理する上でセキュリティ上の問題等からGUIを入れたくないという人にはとてもお勧め．
設定はすべてテキストベース．GUIのインストールをしなくてもきっちりとサーバーを立ち上げることができると思います．

この本をベースにして，さらに個々の詳しいセキュリティの設定方法をその他の本で調べていくとセキュアなサーバーを立ち上げることができると思います．

このシリーズは価格が安く盛り沢山の内容は他の入門書には見当たらないので
悪いと知りつつもセミナーのテキストに採用してしまうが、
その内容は質が悪すぎて毎回がっかりさせられる。
悪名たかい "AddDefaultCharset none" の間違いを始めとして
あちこちに素人っぽい間違いが目立つうえ、いくら版を重ねても治らない。

学校等でしっかりした先生の指導の元でテキストとして採用するならよいが、
独習するつもりの初心者は決してこの本を買ってはいけない。
