この本は家庭でLinuxサーバを構築しようと考えている人向けに書かれています。従来の個人向けのRed Hat Linux保守サービスが打ち切られた今となっては、新しく出てきた、このFedora Coreに目が行くと思われます。現在、この本のRed Hat 8版を読んでサーバを構築し、Bフレッツ+ダイナミックDNSで使用していますが、OSが次第に古くなっていくのが気になるため、Fedora Coreへの移行を検討しようとして、この本を購入しました。従来のRed Hatシリーズとの比較で、どこをどのように変更すれば良いのかが分かると期待として読みました。残念ながら、そういう視点では構成されておらず、Fedora Coreを使って新規にサーバを構築するという視点で全編が構成されていました。

既にRed Hat 8や9でサーバを構築されている人は、この本を購入する必要はありません。CD-ROMだけを入手したいのなら、もう少し安い本なり雑誌で十分だと思います。しかし、このアイティーブーストの本はRed Hat 7.2時代から版数を重ねているため、内容的には問題はなく、「はじめて」Linuxサーバを構築する人にはお薦めできます。ただし、Linuxサーバを常時稼働させておきたいのであれば、さらにセキュリティ関係が詳しく書かれている本も併読することをお薦めします。
