CVSを使いたいんだけど何から始めればいいのかわからない方向き。また、WinCVSについて前版よりもかなり多くの記述があるので、windowsユーザーにとってはさらにとっつきやすい情報が多いかも。
ただし、CVSがどのような仕組みになっているのかなど、バックエンドについての記述はないので、そのような情報を得たい人にとっては無用。

　私はWindowsからリモートでCVSを利用するため、そしてなるべく時間をかけずに必要な設定がきるようにとこの本を購入した。

　盛り込もうとしている内容が多いからなのか、全体を通して言いたい事が明確に書かれておらず、非常にわかりづらい。文章の量自体はこのサイズの書籍にしては多いと思うが内容が薄いと感じられた。挿入されている図などの題名の付け方が極めて不適切（意味不明だったり、無意味なものだったり…）で、読み返した際にもこれは一体何だった？と思うことが多かった。「入門」とあるが、果たして素人が何の予備知識もなしにこの本を読んでCVSについて、とくに利用するに際の設定について理解できるのだろうか？詳細はサポートページでなどと記載されている部分もある。また章や節の立て!方が悪いからなのか、著者はいったい私に何をさせたいのかがわからなまま本の記載通りに作業をしていかなければならない場面も多かった。
　しかし実際、windowsユーザーがCVSを使いたいと思ったときには、ウェブなどで自分で一から調べるよりかはこの本を買ってどのようなソフトが利用できるか、情報はどこにあるかなど参考にするといくぶんかは設定などを早く済ませることができると思う。

CVSに興味を持って最初に買った本です。
結構一生懸命読んだつもりですが、わかりにくいです。
「入門CVS」というタイトルですが、CVSを導入したい方には適さないでしょう。
著者のはじめての本らしく、一生懸命っぽさはなんとなく伝わりますが。

ここに書いていいのかわかりませんが、私が読んでわかりやすかった本は「CVSによるオープンソース開発」 （オーム社）です。
理路整然とかかれています。
オープンソース開発とタイトルにありますが、個人で使いたいユーザにとっても十分役に立つと思います。

他にCVSの本を持っているが、CVSは本当にドキュメントが少なく、WinCVSを利用する場合は、本書以外に選択肢がないと思った方がいいでしょう。
