以前他の入門書を読みましたが、クラスの話になると途端に難しくなりました。この本は難しい内容を、面白いたとえ話を使い、やさしい言い回しで解説してあり、わかりやすかったです。
解説の図がたくさんあり、イラストや文章もユーモアがあり、楽しく読めました。
Javaの勉強に是非お勧めします。

プログラミング言語を学ぶのはJavaが初めて。という人には
導入としてよい本だと思います。

「システム」ではなく、身近な事象を例に上げ解説してあるため、
プログラムって何？という人向けにぴったりだと思います。

※他の言語を知っている人にとっては、少々回りくどく、
「ここの部分は、また後で・・・」の記述が頻発しますので、
ガッチリ体系的に学びたい人は、もっと専門書を探した方がよいです。

しかし、初心者向けといえど、基礎中の基礎とも言える、演算の記述方法や、
キャストの仕方など、重要な点は抑えられており、改めて勉強に
なった部分も沢山ありました。

その他よかった点
・イラストがふんだんに使用されており、とっつきやすい。
・専門的名言い回しを出来る限り避け、（どうしても必要な場合はきちんと
解説がされている）安易な言葉を選んでいるため、
途中で挫折することなく読み進められる。（他のガチガチの専門書に
比べれば）
・プログラム例が出来るだけ短く（1ページ内に収まる）、追いやすい。
・逆に練習問題（プログラム穴埋め含む）は、ステップ数は少ないものの、
書かれている事を本当に理解しないと解けないようになっている。

プログラム本は、よくわからないカタカナ語がたくさんでてきて、途中でなにがなんだったか分からなくなってしまうことがあるのですが、この本はそんなことにならずに、読めました。
もちろん、この本にもたくさん用語はでてくるのですが、説明がとてもうまいので
（出てくる例えが分かりやすいのと、用語の説明自体も分かりやすいのと、挿絵がかわいい！）、頭がこんがらがらないで、読めます。

各章が細かく分かれているので、さくさく進めるところも楽しいです。おすすめの１冊です。
