ソフトバンク新書なる新しいシリーズから一冊。とりあえず無難なところでムツゴロウ先生を選択。

実践的動物行動学研究者（なんていう範囲でくくれないお方ですが）であるムツゴロウ先生が、動物行動と大脳生理学から、人間行動を読み解くという本です。

自由奔放な書きっぷりがお人柄を表しています。また、オリジナリティあふれる観察の視点から、マスコミ的な俗説（胎教とかね）への鋭い批判を展開しています。

ある出来事やある特定の視点からの観察を一般論に敷衍することはもちろん危険です。それはわかっていても、数値で表した論文とは違うムツゴロウ先生の本は好きです。

「環境と脳との相互作用」について述べられていた。心は「脳」にあり、「脳の機能はその持ち主が対応すべき環境に直面したとき」に劇的に変化する。母親からの愛情・仲間との交流を通じて「生きていくための基本」を学び、青春期では「成長した個体として生きる位置を確保」するための学習をし、脳は発達していく。これらのことが豊富な著者経験をもとに、エッセイ風に記述されていた。人間を含む動物たちにとって「環境と脳との相互作用」は極めて重要であることを理解した。また「対応すべき環境に直面できなかった」脳（心）の問題点も示されていた。この問題点を著者は「善意のネグレクション」と表現していたことが、心に強く残っている。

　テレビ画面から溢れる口全体の笑顔。動物とジャレあって地面を転げ回る小柄な男性。オーバーアクションにも見える動物好きなおじさん。流布している著者のイメージです。が本書を読むと、この人が真摯な人間研究者だったことが判り、自分の不見識に恥じ入ります。

　研究室に住む学者よりは、考える単位が一桁大きいようです。
　マスコミに流布している様々なヒトについての俗説を、現代の脳科学の成果を使って説明し、正していきます。脳科学の成果の吸収だけでなく、他方では動物の習性を生に体験して、思いもかけない育児の仕組みなどを見出す努力もしています。脳は、発育段階でそのつど必要な環境との相互反応で発育し、また生まれ変わるもので、最初の段階では先ず出産時に生まれ変わり、次に青春時に、性ホルモンの発達で親と別れ、群れの生活を始め生まれ変わるそうです。このテーゼを縦糸にして、それぞれの段階での、体験されたエピソードが自由に溢れ出てきます。生の思考の流れがそのまま出てくる面白さに引きこまれます。

確かにそうだと人を納得させる原石のような考えがごろごろあります。
障害者に万能に思われている動物セラピーは、動物と飼育者だけでは無理で、中心に精神科医が絶対に必要だと著者は考えているそうで、なるほどと思いました。脳と衝動の関係で、仕組みは遺伝子が作り、何が天敵かは、環境との相互反応で決まるという天敵反応の新説。動物の行動には、抑制という大きな傘があり、そこにホルモンが流れこんで、ある行為が起動するときに上手く正しく行動がついていくことが基本であること。また子どもは囲い込まないことが大事で、子ども達に実物に触れる教育を与えるべきだ。などなど
　青春を方向性を持った混沌と捕らえている著者の性教育の話を次回にはゼヒ聞きたいなと思いました。
