この本を購入したときの私の状態ですが、
　・家庭用のブロードバンドルータの設定はできるけれど、ciscoルータを触るのは初めて
　・cisco研修になんてもちろん行ったこともない
　・ルータの設定ってブラウザ上から設定ソフトを使って、簡単にできるんじゃないの？　という程度の認識（コマンドを打たなければいけないことすら知らない）
　・linuxは普段触っている
程度でした。
が、この本とciscoのホームページ上にある設定例を何度も何度も読みかえした結果、賞味二日程で外部に接続することが出来ました。
（唯一そのどちらにも書かれていなかったのは、DNSの設定ぐらいでしたか...）
初心者の「どうして/分からない」に余すところなく答えてくれる本だと思います。

ただ、タイトルには「初心者」を入れたほうがいいとは思います。
私でも数日で把握できてしまう程度の内容ではありましたので。

CISCOに限らずメーカーのブランドで出版される書籍はわかりにくい場合が多いが
この本は著者がNECラーニングの講師をされていることもあり、実践的で
大変参考になります。
特にCISCOの正規講習に行かせてもらえないが、ルーターの管理責任は背負わされている者にとっては
かなり役立つ一冊だと思います。

ルータのコマンドや使い方を図解を交えながら丁寧に解説しているので、読み易いものになっていると思います。入門書という意味ではこれは非常によい。今までルータにとっつきにくかったという人にはお薦めの一冊です。
