4.0 out of 5 stars 最初の一冊が最後の一冊になりかねない本, 2004/12/15
　著者は相当現場を経験されている方と見ました。

　「CVSって何？」どころか「バージョン管理システムって何？」っていうところから、CVSのクライアントサーバ環境の構築、設定、また具体的な操作までこと細かく書いてある実用書です。さらにこの本で収まらない部分は参照先URLまで丁寧に案内してあり、著者の妥協無き姿勢が伺われます。

　現在の現場では普通に存在するSSH環境などでの具体的な構築・操作方法（しかもSSH自体がわからなくても必要最低限のことは触れてあるので構築・操作は可能でしょう）や、著者がどうしてこの環境について書いたのかという背景まで触れてあり、またこの本で触れていない部分についてもそれがどうなのかということまでさらりと触れてあるのでこの本が一冊あれば今からCVS環境を作るという向きにも検討段階から役に立つ本だと思います。

　著者はUNIX系環境はFedraCore2で検証・解説していますが、RedHat系Linuxで使われるxinetdだけでなく従来型のinetd環境についても同等に触れられているのでSVR4系UNIXでも普通に利用できる書籍だろうかと思います。（内容については私もSVR4系UNIX環境での検証はしていませんので責任持てません）

　もちろん、タイトルにあるWindows系も同様にしっかり記述されておりこの向きに同様に役に立つでしょう。

　全体に文体も適度にやわらかく、わかりやすい本だと思います。「とにかく導入する、使う」ことを目的とするならばこの本一冊で全て事足りるかもしれません。良書です。

4.0 out of 5 stars 一冊でCVSサーバー&クライアントの基礎，WinCVSの基礎が解るかもしれない書籍, 2005/10/10
WinCVSなんて使うことないだろうと思って今まで見なかったのですが，とあるIRCチャンネルでWinCVSにはまってる人が居て試しに使ってみた．

つかえねーーー!!checkout/update/commitとかの程度ならcygwinの方が楽だよ!!
とか思ったのは慣れの問題か?

と思いっぱなしはよくなのでとりあえずざっと読んでみた．
前半はCVS一般について一通りの流れが丁寧に書かれています．
後半がWinCVSについて書かれています．

GUIはGUIでやっぱり見やすい部分はありますね．
現状のモジュール内の全体のリビジョンを把握したいときとかはGUIでツリー表示とかは楽．

この本の通りやっていればWinCVSは使えるようになるのではないでしょうか?
と思いたい．
でもやっぱりCVSは普通に使ってるとGUIだから楽だとは思えないなー．

余談的にはあの鵜飼さんが書いてるところと知人の鹿島さんが書かれているところもポイントです?
