素晴らしい最高の教育書である。ヒューマンな心をもったレヴィーン博士は、ハーバード大で医学を学び、ボストンの子供病院を振り出しに、子供たちが自分に合った人生を見つけ出すための努力を、小児科医と教育者がうまく協力して支援できることを経験した。以来３０年間、その仕事に魅了されてきたという。学校で子供たちがつまづく「謎の機能不全症」を明らかにして、救済することをライフワークとしただけあって、本書の内容は飛切りの上質である。

本書には１５０名の子供の事例が登場し、心のどこかに機能不全があることがつまづきの原因となっていることを具体的に愛情深く示している。そして、学習障害は、神経回路の配線の特性の反映であり、誰もが、ある方面で優れ、他の方面では劣るのだという??学校秀才が問題なしということではないという。

苦しんでいる子供の機能不全は何かを特定できると、学校やカウンセラーと協力して、支援する方策を採り、その後、子供が生気を取り戻していく様が爽快である。

読んでいると、自分の中にある機能不全症を指摘されたような気もする。子供の頃に苦手であったことが大人になっても影を落としていることに気づき、心が痛む。本書は、大人が人生のある面をやりなおすための教育書にもなるだろう。本書は、「自分の心の種類とよくマッチした人生航路を発見し、それを獲得できるように支援したい」著者の真心の発露であり、それゆえ読者の心を打つ。「教育は未来への希望」である。本書は現代の必読書のひとつだろう。

生徒が学習障害のレッテルを貼られるケースの何割かは教師に問題があるのではないか？自分の経験を顧みてもそう思わざるを得ません。本書には教師を“教育障害”から救う方法が具体的に書かれています。教師必読、生徒の保護者必読、そんな本だから生徒が読んでも勿論ＯＫ。気持ちを解放してくれる一冊です。

　コミュニケーションをする中で自分がどういう人間か、相手はどう物事を捉えているのかを整理するのにとても役立っています。
　教育関係者に向けて書かれていますが、それ以外の関係の人でもとても参考になると思います。
　また子どもの全発達を捉えるという考え方は、ぜひ子どもに関わる仕事をしている人が持ってほしいと思いました。
