エキスパートプログラマへの道には「開発プロセスに対する知識（オブジェクト指向開発・ユニファイドプロセス・エクストリームプログラミング・リファクタリングなど）」「アーキテクチャパターンに対する知識」「アルゴリズムとデータ構造に対する知識」などが必要となりますが、中でもアルゴリズムとデータ構造は基礎中の基礎にもかかわらず、地味で面倒な為、ついつい避けて通りたくなる分野でもあります。本書はそんなアルゴリズムとデータ構造の学習書として「読みやすくて解りやすい」貴重な一冊です。特に文系出身で正式な技術教育を受けていないプログラマには必読書です。

この本は、私がJavaの文法だけはわかったが、どうもオブジェクト指向
がわからない。。。と苦しんでいた時に、友人に勧められて購入した本です。とても分厚く、そして値が張りましたが、目から鱗でした。

　様々なアルゴリズムはもちろんのこと、最初に説明されているオブジェクト指向の考え方がとても分かりやすかったです。段階的にオブジェクト指向へとソースをブラッシュアップしていくことによって、読者に丁寧にそして直感に訴えかけます。アルゴリズムも付属のアプレットを併用することにより、視覚的に訴えてくれます。

　Javaからプログラミングを始めた人で、入門書で「Hello World」が出せるようになった人が次ぎにじっくりと腰を据えて読めば、アルゴリズムとオブジェクト指向を十二分に学ぶことができると思います。

　作者の説明の旨さの味を逃すことなく翻訳している訳者の翻訳スキル

も素晴らしい！（たまに作者特有の言い回しがきになるが）原書は第二版が発売されたので、その翻訳が待ち遠しい。

アルゴリズムとデータ構造の書籍はたくさんありますが、理論偏重で
これらの知識をツールとして知りたい人には、ハードルが高かった
ように感じます。しかし、この本は図などを通してイメージがわき
やすいように工夫されています。また、プログラムに実装させる際に
サンプルコードが大変参考になりました。

若干値段が高いように思えますが、内容からすれば安いぐらいだと
思います。
