『チーム･バチスタの栄光』に続く田口・白鳥シリーズの第二弾。
『チーム･バチスタ〜』同様、白鳥はこの下巻に入ってからの登場。
ここではさらに、白鳥の学生時代の腐れ縁であり警察庁から桜宮署に出向中の警視正・加納が、瑞人の父の殺人事件を捜査する過程で絡んできます。

「田口を一方的に振り回す白鳥」のみならず、｢そんな白鳥に対し、全くひるむことなく論戦しあう天敵：加納｣、そして名コンビだかなんだかわからない上司と部下である加納と玉村のコンビなど、キャラクター同士のやりとりはなかなか楽しめます。

しかし、犯人が早い段階で想像がついてしまう上に、犯人を追い詰める過程も、特別に惹きつける要素が何もありませんでした。
また、ミステリーの他、SFやら少しだけラブストーリーやら、いろいろな要素を盛りこんだようですが、詰め込みすぎたゆえ、どれも表面的な描写にとどまり、中途半端に終わってしまった印象があります。
単に｢暇つぶしに読む軽い小説｣や、｢ストーリーよりもキャラの面白さのある小説｣を求めているならそれなりの価値はありますが、｢本を読むからには深みのある読み応えのある内容を｣という方にはあまりオススメできません。

登場人物が勢ぞろいし、
ユニークなキャラクターのかけあいとかは、
非常におもしろいものの、
肝心の事件とその解決は、
残念ながらさほどおもしろくない。

謎解き以前に簡単に犯人が想像できてしまうし、
謎解きもたいした方法ではない。
あっさり結末になってしまう。

ただ海堂ワールドともいうべき、
チームバチスタの続編として、
ユニークなキャラとその文面のおもしろさだけで、
ひとまずもっているような本。

事件解決のストーリーは気にせず、
文庫で500円で暇つぶし程度なら、
そこそこは満足できるとは思います。

チーム・バチスタの栄光に続き、ロジカルモンスター白鳥登場。
物語を事件解決に導く...が、推理小説と考えると事件解決の方法は余りにも現実離れしています。
境界線を教えるべき大人が、易々と境界線をまたいでみせたことが、事件を複雑にさせたという総括に関しては同感です。
