サブプライム問題が私が思っている以上に深刻な問題であり、
その本質を鋭くえぐったこの本の内容はおすすめできます。

シューさんのおっしゃるとおり、本書を出版された2007年末に読んでおけば
と思いました。わたしもサブプライム問題を過小評価していました。

バブルは繰り返す。そしてこの問題の闇は深い。去年のうちは
サブプライム問題は一時的と言っていたエコノミストたちは信用できません。

マスコミの人たちも著者のようにもっと真実を解き明かす取材を
してもらいたいと思います。

複雑に絡み合ったサブプライム問題を丁寧に解きほぐして、分かりやすく書かれていて、金融や経済に詳しくなくても理解できました。

サブプライム問題の兆候は２年前から現れていたというのに、バブルピーク時に特有の「現状正当化理論」が出回って、気付くのが遅れたというエピソードにはなるほどと思ったし、「中央銀行が金融危機を未然に防いだとか、不況の原因を根本的に治療して、適切なルールを導入したという話は、ついぞ聞かない。むしろ失敗例が多い」という指摘はなかなか鋭いと思いました。

本の最後の方で触れられているのですが、サブプライム問題の本質を理解できるようになったら、日本でもこれから普及しそうな「リバース・モーゲージ」の落とし穴も見えてきました。

こんなふうに難しい話を分かりやすく、かつ、専門的に深いところまで導いてくれる本は貴重だと思います。

０５年頃、「米国は日本のバブル崩壊を良く研究しており、米国では住宅バブルは起きない！」と良く聞きました。
しかし、本書を読んでみると、同じ轍を踏んでいたように思えてきます。

米国の住宅優遇税制は「お金持ち父さん」シリーズでも言及されているものですが、本書では詳しく書かれています。
この税制から始まり悪徳業者＋金融機関のモラルハザードにによって、住宅バブルが発生していく過程よく説明されています。

そして８月に株式市場でパニックが起きました。

サブプライム問題は、現代史の重要な１ページになりそうです。
本書はこの歴史を、短い文と実例により臨場感たっぷりに描いています。

お勧めです。
