毎年、この本の来年版が出版され、山積みになっているのを見て、あぁ、もう年末だなぁと感じてしまう『風物詩』のような本である。
そして、創刊号から『このミス』を買っている私にとっては、これを読まないと今年が終わらない本でもある。

このようなガイドブックは読まないで、出版された、自分の気になるミステリーのすべてを読めれば、素晴らしいことだが、なにせ時間と金は限られている。
ましてや、学校を卒業して働くようになってからは、本屋に始終行くこともままならなくなってしまった。
そんな人間には、指標となるこのような本は、やはり魅力的ではある。

ただ、評価している人間と、自分の好みが同じであるわけはなく、上位に位置するものでも、読んでよかった！！というものばかりではない。
また逆に、普段は自分が絶対読まないだろう傾向のミステリーを、この本の上位にあったからと読んで、素晴らしい出会いに感謝したことも数しれない。

この本は立ち読みでベスト10をチェックするだけでも、なかなか面白いが、ミステリーファンなら、毎年、購入して、数年分を通して読み返すのも興味ぶかい。
自分の好みと合う選考委員を見つけたり、前年度の傾向とどう違うか等、自分なりの様々な楽しみ方ができると思う。

順位についてのコメントは、これから読む人の興味を削ぐかと思うので割愛します。
ミステリーブームに翳りがあるのかを巡る話の中で、一位の本しか売れないというコメントが。多くの人に受け入れられる小説は確かに面白いものが多いけど、「すごく」面白い小説は意外とマイナーだったりするのも事実。
いろいろな年間ベストやガイドブックがありますが、ぱらぱらめくって目星を付けたら、私は書店へ立ち読みへ行こう。
